Stutsman-Gerbaz Earthmoving, Inc. was
started in 1960 when Dick Stutsman and Jerry Gerbaz purchased a
small earthmoving business in Aspen Colorado from Jim Hayes.
Both Dick and Jerry, who were raised in The Roaring Fork Valley,
realized the potential for growth and knew that there would be a
growing need for earthmoving in the Valley.
The business started out small, only
operating in the summers. During the winter Dick and Jerry could
be found on Aspen Mountain working as lift operators on lift
number three for The Aspen Skiing Company. As demand increased
they began working year round to keep up with the valleys
need for excavation.
As the business grew, Dick and Jerry began
taking on bigger projects. One such project was The Miners
Building (a local hardware store) which at the time was one of
the largest and deepest foundations to be excavated in Aspen.
Today the Miners building stands as one of the many projects
that is a testament to the quality of workmanship provided by
Dick Stutsman and Jerry Gerbaz have since
retired but Stutsman-Gerbaz, Inc. remains a family run business,
that is just as dedicated now as it was when they first started,
to a job well done. After all, perfection is our benchmark.
